A History of Excellence: The Final Singapore Derby

Join us as we celebrate the final chapter of Singapore Turf Club's racing legacy. Experience the excitement of the last Singapore Derby race held on 21 July 2024, attended by some 5,800 racegoers.

With a history spanning over 140 years, the Singapore Derby is one of the oldest and most prestigious races in Singapore. The iconic race has featured numerous world-famous horses, jockeys and trainers since its inauguration at Farrer Park Racecourse. Today, it remains one of the most esteemed events in the local racing fixtures.

Anticipation is in the air as spectators watch the races unfold at the Singapore Derby race meeting.

It was a thrilling test of the mettle of the best thoroughbreds aged four years old who raced over 1800m on turf at the Kranji Racecourse. Lim’s Saltoro, with jockey Marc Lerner atop, emerged as the winner of the last Singapore Derby, with a time of 1min 47.36sec. The talented horse secured $400,000 in prizemoney to the delight of the winning connections, including owner Lim Siah Mong and trainer Daniel Meagher.

Some 5,800 racegoers witnessed the final Singapore Derby race. The uptick in admission numbers was bolstered by the Club’s complimentary Grandstand Level 1 admission tickets that were offered as a gesture of gratitude to our patrons. It was a day filled with excitement and exhilaration, marking a significant moment as the Club approaches the homestretch of our racing history.

The crowd streamed into the Club, with those who had secured free admission tickets forming a line from early morning.
