Introduced in 1993 as the Heartstrings Silver Cup, the EW Barker Trophy (1400m on turf) was upgraded to Group 2 status and renamed the EW Barker Memorial Trophy in 2002 in honour of the late chairman of the Singapore Turf Club.
Ran as the EW Barker Trophy since 2004, the feature race had a brief hiatus in 2021 and 2022 before returning to the Singapore racing calendar this year.
In 2020, the Shane Baertschiger-trained Nepean went all the way to take out the feature race under jockey Mohd Zaki, handing him the second Group win of his career.
