On 5 October 2024, the Singapore Turf Club hosted our grand finale: the Grand Singapore Gold Cup, marking the end of an era that will be dearly missed.
With its left-handed course and meticulously maintained turf, the Group 1 Singapore Gold Cup attracted the finest local horses aged three and older. It was a 2000m test of skill and endurance that had spectators gripping the edge of their seats while these majestic creatures showcased their speed, grace, and focused determination. Its prize purse of $1 million, raised to $1.38 million for the Grand Singapore Gold Cup, added an extra dose of excitement to the proceedings.

A Story of Transformation
The Singapore Gold Cup, inaugurated on 18 October 1924 at the Farrer Park Racecourse, holds a special place in the hearts of racing enthusiasts. The debut race was a modest affair, with Thelasocrete emerging as the victor. The race then made its way to the Bukit Timah Racecourse in 1933, where it continued to captivate audiences until 1999.
The closure of the Bukit Timah facility paved the way for a new chapter in Kranji. To commemorate this momentous move, the prize purse was increased to a staggering $1 million, and international contenders were invited to join the competition. Three years later, the race eventually found its way back to its domestic roots, and returned to its domestic status.

Hats Off to the Legends
Speaking of history, let us take a moment to reflect on the triumphs and legends that have graced this hallowed turf. From the first local jockey Abdul Mawi who won the Gold Cup in 1958, to horses with multiple wins like El Dorado and Three Rings, these magnificent legends have etched their names into the annals of Singapore's racing history.
All these serve as a reminder of the indomitable spirit and sheer elegance that make horse racing a spectacle like no other.
