The Group 1 Lion City Cup (1200m) dates back to 1974 and has long been regarded as Singapore’s domestic premier sprint race that showcases the ability of the best sprinters.
Singapore’s famous champion sprinter, Rocket Man, won the Lion City Cup a record four times from 2009 to 2012. Last year, the race was captured by Lim’s Kosciuszko, handing jockey Wong Chin Chuen his second Group 1 win after the pair bagged the Group 1 Kranji Mile in the same year.
With the reinstatement of the STC Super Sprint Series this year, the Lion City Cup with a prize purse of $300,000 will run as the third and final Leg of the series after the Group 3 Kranji Sprint (1200m) and Group 3 Rocket Man Sprint (1200m).
